2024-2025 Highlights

  • In this 30th year of operation, 37 students participated in the program, more than ever before! Twenty-six completed the year.
  • 5 students became PADI Open-Water certified divers.
  • 5 students became Water Safety Instructors.
  • Students learned to geo-track.
  • On Earth Day 2024, TAP was represented in the Nashville Outdoor Recreation Festival. 
  • Students held a swim-a-thon that raised more than $15,000 for the program.
  • Students learned in the Collective Approach to Restoring Our Ecosystems (CARES) Program.
  • Students practiced TAP elevator speeches about the program.
  • Students took two creative writing classes and some are being featured in a book to be published about Black people and water.
  • Students volunteered for Swim Across America swim-a-thon to raise money for cancer research.
  • Students had two sessions about financial literacy.
  • TAP went skiing in Ohio at the invitation of See You at the Top (SYATT) at Peak and Peek Resort in NY.
  • TAP completed one phase of Wilderness Survival.
  • TAP has 1 EarthEcho Ambassador who lead the group in monitoring the water quality of Whites Creek.
  • TAP received several grants, which it greatly appreciates.
  • 2 students graduated from high school and TAP.
  • Several divers participated in a YDWP Empowerment Camp in Pelham, AL.
  • TAP held a 30-year anniversary celebration and honored many of the earliest volunteers and co-founder Willie Sweet.
